Meet Coach KJ
Playing Career & Foundation
With over 27 years in the game as a player and coach, Coach KJ created Kaizen Soccer Academy to help players grow with confidence through high-level, accessible training. A lifelong student of the game, KJ competed at a high level throughout his youth and college career while developing a deep understanding of the technical, tactical, and mental demands of soccer.
As a standout player at Iolani School, he was a four-year varsity starter and helped lead the program to its first-ever undefeated season, setting a standard of excellence built on discipline, preparation, and teamwork. KJ continued his playing career at the collegiate level at both the University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University, experiences that shaped his approach to player development and long-term growth.
Achievements & Recognition
During his high school career, Coach KJ earned numerous honors that reflected his dedication and performance on the field. He was named the 2014 Hawaii Boys Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year, earned Offensive Player of the Year honors, and was selected as a two-time First Team All-State and First Team ILH player. In 2012, he was selected as Hawaii’s representative for Nike “The Chance,” competing among the top unsigned players from around the world in Barcelona, Spain.
These experiences helped shape his understanding of elite-level training, competition, and continuous improvement.
Coaching Philosophy & Kaizen Soccer Academy
Beyond his playing experience, Coach KJ has been training and mentoring players for over a decade, beginning at age 18 and eventually founding Kaizen Soccer Academy in 2020. His coaching philosophy combines technical skill development, confidence building, and mindset training to help players improve consistently — not just during practice, but every day.
Today, Kaizen Soccer Academy brings that experience online through a training platform designed for players, parents, and coaches to access professional-level guidance anytime, anywhere. Coach KJ’s mission is simple: help players reach their full potential while building confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love for the game.
